ABOUT US

Free Fall Farm is aptly named in this day in age. To open up a business based purely on passion and the desire to do it better, more thoughtfully, and with more personalization, in today's climate, is potentially crazy. To jump into acting upon it is, in fact, a free fall.

Free Fall Farm was once just the dream of a kid who loved horses, a kid who loved being in the barn and learning everything she could. That kid thought she just wanted to ride and compete. Little did she know that desire and those horses would lead her to most vet hospitals on the east coast, through odd injuries, and late found tendon defects that became presentation cases. And little by little, along the way, she was being led to learn a wealth of veterinary, management, and rehab knowledge that would only take her another 20 years to begin to figure out how to put together in a case by case program to produce the best in each horse, regardless of the end goal.

The process sounds simple. Bring the body back into alignment by finding and eliminating pain; ensure all systems are woking properly (stomach, teeth, bloodwork, etc); and slowly work your way through the body and its immediate needs to get down to the root cause. First we take care of all the noise, and then we can find and fix the problem.

After this is where the real fun starts. Now that we know what went wrong, we can make a plan to maintain it, via the work we do, the body work we do, the veterinary maintenance we do, the therapies we can add in to help, and whatever else your specific horse may ask for or need. In this system we can go about the work in a way that unlocks the potential of a horse, maybe even in ways other people couldn't see.

By keeping the program small, we are able to spend copious amounts of time with each horse, learning about them and what helps to make them each thrive. This gives us the opportunity to notice all the little changes in each animal as they are happening and thus be able to address them early and often.

Our staff is passionate about making each horse find their full potential. It is our belief that any horse that chooses to work for us deserves to be treated as the athlete they've chosen to be, regardless of performance level.  Often times it is this belief that unlocks more in  a horse than many people thought possible.

Samantha Greenbaum - Owner, Manager, Rider

It all started at summer camp. From there launched a passion and a drive for knowledge that couldn’t be stopped. It would, however, be unexpectedly shaped by the experiences thrown her way.
The journey began in Holliston, MA, under the tutelage of Melody Taylor-Scott, who taught her all the most important basics of riding, care of the horse, and horsemanship. It was here she learned the awesome responsibility of the horse and our duty to them.
Her education continued as a working student for top rider, trainer, and judge, Mark Jungherr, who brought her into the Junior Hunters and the Big Eq. During this time she got to show all up and down the east coast at places like HITS Ocala, HITS Saugerties, and Vermont Summer Festival, finishing her junior career at venues such as Devon and Harrisburg. Mark instilled in her the importance of feel and being one with your horse while maintaining a positive outlook and influence.

As a child, Sam had always been the odd one, asking for flat lessons, trailering out to dressage lessons when all the other kids wanted to jump higher and go faster. But there was always a bigger draw to the synchronicity she could find with her partner under her and the way the movement always felt better. So after realizing she needed a shift in Wellington, she did what any reasonable horse girl would do, she found an elite, dressage professional, and begin working and riding for them. Under Olympian Dottie Morkis, Sam learned the basics of true classical dressage, and the precision, skill and softness it took to really allow a horse full mobility through their body with a rider on them.

At the conclusion of her junior career, when she decided that the jumpers were not a good fit for her, she continued on into the adults hunters and equitation under the tutelage of award winning trainer Nancy Ceisluk, who truly gave her an understanding of the biomechanics of riding and the way a rider can impact a horse. She also came home with multiple ribbons at year end finals as a bonus.
Armed with this knowledge, Sam headed down to Wellington, a long time dream of hers, to compete among and also work for the best. She was lucky enough to enjoy a position working for top pony trainer Mindy Darst, and spending one of the best years of her life at the pony ring with the best ponies, and pony kids. It was also during this time she was able to be coached by some of the greats such as Jennifer Bieling and Peter Pletcher.

And while the experience was amazing, it was also here in Wellington, that she realized the hustle and bustle of the horse show didn’t quite fulfill her the way the day to day work at home did.

Concurrently with her show career, any number of her horses had thrown odd injuries at her, some of which had been presented for years thereafter. Sam had to not only be involved with diagnosing, but also rehabbing. There was a pressure in doing it the right way to keep the horses safe and reward in watching that process go on and seeing them come back with confidence thriving. Possibly one of the best rewards ever was to rehab a horse with a hole in her suspensory, who was resold years later, only for them to not be able to find the hole on ultrasound. It proved to her that things really can be healed and the body can come back stronger.
Surprisingly, it still took years for her to put together all of these experiences into what has become Free Fall Farm.
Sam's passion for building a horse's strength back up piece by piece, combined with an insatiable desire to find the best, least invasive healing tools is the vision brought to life in Reddick, FL.
